The Champions League final is the biggest single game in club football. Every year, two teams — sometimes giants, sometimes underdogs — meet on one night to decide who rules Europe. And across seven decades, that night has produced some of the most extraordinary results in sporting history.
Final 01 — The Miracle of Istanbul
Liverpool 3–3 AC Milan (3–2 pens)
Istanbul · 2005
Milan led 3–0 at half-time. They had Shevchenko, Kaká, and Pirlo. Liverpool had hope — and nothing else. Then Steven Gerrard pulled one back in the 54th minute, and something shifted. Three goals in six minutes. Penalties. Jerzy Dudek saving Shevchenko's final kick. The most famous comeback in Champions League history, and arguably in football itself.
Final 02 — Manchester United's Last-Second Miracle
Manchester United 2–1 Bayern Munich
Barcelona · 1999
Bayern were 1–0 up heading into injury time. The trophy was already engraved with their name. Then Teddy Sheringham scored in the 91st minute. Then Ole Gunnar Solskjær scored in the 93rd. Two goals in stoppage time. Bayern's players were devastated on the pitch. United had won the treble in the most dramatic fashion imaginable.
Final 03 — The Underdog's Night
Porto 3–0 Monaco
Gelsenkirchen · 2004
Nobody expected Porto. Nobody expected Monaco either. José Mourinho's side had eliminated Manchester United and Lyon on their way to the final — and then dismantled Monaco with clinical efficiency. Carlos Alberto, Deco, and Dmitri Alenichev scored. It was a final that proved the Champions League could still surprise everyone.
Final 04 — Chelsea's Survival Act
Chelsea 1–1 Bayern Munich (4–3 pens)
Munich · 2012
Bayern were playing in their own stadium. They led with minutes to go. Didier Drogba headed Chelsea level in the 88th minute — then scored the decisive penalty in the shootout. Chelsea had barely survived the entire tournament, yet walked away as champions. Roberto Di Matteo had only been in charge for two months.
Final 05 — PSG's Historic Demolition
PSG 5–0 Inter Milan
Munich · 2025
The most lopsided final in the 70-year history of the competition. PSG didn't just win their first Champions League — they announced themselves as the dominant force in European football. Five goals, no reply. Désiré Doué scored twice. It was the night Paris finally conquered Europe — and did it in a way no one had ever done before.
Final 06 — Budapest 2026
PSG 1–1 Arsenal (4–3 pens)
Budapest · 2026
Arsenal led. PSG leveled through Dembélé. Extra time settled nothing. Penalties decided everything. The Parisians converted four of five. Arsenal's Gabriel missed the crucial kick. PSG became back-to-back champions — only the second club in the Champions League era to defend the title. Budapest will be remembered for a long time.
From Istanbul to Budapest, the Champions League final has always delivered. The scorelines change. The clubs change. But the drama never does.
